Half Day Cafe is a welcome break from all the corporate chains in the area – we’re owned and operated by folks who live close by. We cook mostly from scratch right here in our kitchen because, well–it just tastes better. And, we’ve assembled really nice people to take care of you in a sunny, cheery dining room. Come on in—you’ll be glad you did!
Our Mango Butter Rum Syrup is made from scratch. Likewise, our seasonal French Toast fillings and toppings. Our sausage gravy, biscuits, carnitas, strata, quiche, red-eye gravy, chorizo gravy, salsas, soups, dressings, and more—are all made from scratch.
A lot of other breakfast places use premade items that they reheat. Heating is not cooking—sorry. Scratch cooking is preparing food with fresh proteins and ingredients so we end up with real food made from real ingredients. You’ll notice the difference right away!
It’s never been more challenging to hire servers than it is today. But we remain committed to valuing kind hearts over skill sets when we’re hiring. It’s worked out, then, that we have some really nice people working in our dining room. More than in the big breakfast chains, you’ll often recognize your server from a previous visit—as they’ll likewise recognize you, too.
Chain restaurants have layers of management who never acknowledge you. At Half Day, the owner will ask about your recent vacation or check to see how it’s going for your oldest who just went off to school—things you won’t hear from the corporate office. There’s just a different vibe at the café—come on in and see for yourself…
When we opened our Mason location in 2018, we made sure to have big banks of windows facing north and west for lots of great natural light, just like we did in our original location in Wyoming, OH. Using those same bright and cheery colors makes for a very pleasant space to enjoy your meal.
